AWS QuickSight & MySQL Integration (Remotely)

I need Amazon QuickSight connected to a MySQL database that is running on an EC2 instance, then a simple first pass at visualising the data. The EC2 instance is already live; what I do not have yet is the networking, permissions and QuickSight objects that will let me explore the data quickly.
• Set up the secure connection between QuickSight and the EC2-hosted MySQL database (VPC settings, security-group rules, IAM role and data source inside QuickSight).
• Build at least one dataset that pulls the core tables I specify, with refresh scheduling enabled.
