PostgreSQL Engineer for Scalable SaaS (No Agencies)
Budget: $8 – $18 USD
Job Overview:
IMPORTANT: While we are open to the use of AI in responding to the job posting. Please be honest in your responses.
We’re building a new SaaS application and are seeking a highly skilled PostgreSQL Database Engineer to lead the design, optimization, and implementation of our multi-tenant database architecture.
You’ll help define a future-ready data foundation using PostgreSQL, based on a reference schema originally developed in MySQL. The goal is to translate, enhance, and scale this into a robust SaaS-native PostgreSQL environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Analyze and adapt existing MySQL schema to PostgreSQL standards
Design a multi-tenant architecture (shared-schema or schema-per-tenant)
Implement and tune indexes, partitions, constraints, and query performance
Define best practices for data integrity, migrations, and rollback strategies
Set up RLS (Row-Level Security), roles, and tenant access control
Collaborate with backend developers on ORM integration (Prisma, Sequelize, etc.)
Document schema architecture and database workflows
Must-Have Experience:
4+ years with PostgreSQL in production SaaS environments
Strong knowledge of:
PostgreSQL-specific features (CTEs, window functions, JSONB, lateral joins)
Row-level security, partitioning, schema isolation strategies
Query optimization and performance tuning
Experience designing multi-tenant SaaS systems
Familiarity with PostgreSQL in cloud environments (AWS RDS, Aurora, etc.)
Nice to Have:
Experience migrating from MySQL to PostgreSQL
Experience with cloud-native database tools (pgbouncer, Citus, pg_stat_statements)
Exposure to ORMs (Prisma, Sequelize, TypeORM, SQLAlchemy)
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for DB deployment
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform
You’re a Great Fit If You:
Think in terms of data scalability, tenant security, and performance
Enjoy writing clean, well-documented SQL
Understand the tradeoffs in schema design for scale vs. maintainability
Are a self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively with dev teams
How to Apply:
Please include:
A brief description of similar SaaS DB projects you've worked on
Details about your experience with PostgreSQL-specific features
Your availability and hourly/fixed-rate expectations
(Optional) Sample ERD, schema, or query snippet you’re proud of
