SF Database and Directory Deliverable

Job ID: 37096106

Budget: $250 – $750 USD

Scope Description- To build a hardware/software platform to manage our family data. The project should deliver a database to replace a MS Word manual process. The output of the project is a maintainable database that can be managed by a handful of users and generate directory files without much manual manipulation every 3-5 years (on demand). The first output deliverable of the database, once created, is to generate an electronic file which will ultimately produce “The Directory”. The directory includes three sections of data: Facts Section: This section of the directory houses fun facts about our family’s information and how that information has changed over time. Family Tree Section – This section of the directory lists each of the original 15 children of our family, and per person in our family tree. Addresses Section – This section of the directory lists each person’s address information as well as a linkage to the family tree number.
No long-term DB maintenance is required, but teaching us how to maintain the database as well as do DB updates (field additions most likely).
Database Security is of utmost importance to us. Initial data entry can be either via Excel (base data and all relationships) or a very simple web front-end but not necessary. We would like to know the difference in cost between these two options.
We are currently developing the high level requirements document and would provide an entity-relationship diagram (or whatever you prefer for relationship development) as well as initial data specifications for the database. We are familiar (very high level) with MS Access but do not know the best backend tool to use. We do not want cloud-based data storage, but hard-drive-based data storage that can be shared (thumb drive??) if possible
We see this as a one-time development project with maintenance and update processes, along with the deliverable generation capability. One additional enhancement to the directory would be additional on-demand reporting (field / relationship level).
We would like to know if you quote on very small family-related projects like this.
