Freelance Database Engineer (Google Cloud Platform)
About the Role
We are looking for a freelance database engineer to support our projects deployed on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is ideal for an independent professional who can design, implement, and manage cloud databases efficiently while ensuring high performance, scalability, and security.
Scope of Work
• Set up and configure databases on GCP (Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Firestore, or others as required)
• Optimise database performance, indexing, and queries for production workloads
• Implement backup, recovery, and monitoring strategies to ensure minimal downtime
• Secure databases through proper access control, encryption, and compliance best practices
• Collaborate with our development team to ensure seamless integration with applications
• Provide technical documentation and knowledge transfer for internal teams
• Offer ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting support on an as-needed basis
Requirements
• Proven track record in managing databases on Google Cloud Platform
• Strong expertise in SQL and database design
• Hands-on experience with Cloud SQL, BigQuery, and Firestore (additional GCP services a plus)
• Familiarity with data warehousing, ETL processes, and database automation
• Ability to work independently and deliver solutions within agreed timelines
• Good communication skills for clear project updates and remote collaboration
Nice to Have
• Google Cloud certification (Data Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or equivalent)
• Experience with containerised environments (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Prior freelance or consultancy project experience
