MySQL DBA Consultant

Job ID: 40518772

Budget: $8 – $15 USD

My production stack is still on MySQL 5.7 (Linux and a handful of Windows hosts inside AWS EC2) and the move to 8.0 is now on my calendar. What I need most is experienced, eyes-wide-open guidance on upgrade planning and execution so every step is repeatable, tested, and reversible.

Work scope
You’ll review my current upgrade plan, point out blind spots, and help me refine a checklist that covers pre-flight checks, in-place vs. blue-green options, and a rock-solid rollback path. Along the way we’ll validate replication topology, confirm backups restore cleanly, and ensure monitoring catches anything the upgrade might break. Performance tuning advice is welcome whenever you spot it, but the priority is a smooth, low-risk version jump.

Key tools in play: MySQL 5.7/8.0, mysqldump & xtrabackup, AWS EC2 snapshots, Percona Toolkit, and standard Linux shell utilities. If you prefer other utilities or scripts, I’m open to recommendations.

Deliverables
• Reviewed and annotated upgrade checklist (pre-upgrade, in-flight, post-upgrade)
• Documented rollback procedure tested on a staging clone
• Written notes on any parameter, schema, or query changes required for 8.0 compatibility
• Brief summary of improvements or risks discovered during the review
