Job Description:
We are seeking an Expert Mainframe Database Technical Lead for the Infrastructure and Operations Division. The Expert Mainframe Database Technical Lead will be responsible for scoping, sourcing, and optimizing database environments to support comprehensive data analysis. This role requires applying innovative analysis techniques, modeling results and scenarios, and ensuring the system’s integrity.
The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in system databases, data elements, application software, and various toolsets to develop enterprise data solutions. They will demonstrate extensive experience across contemporary ICT systems, servers, coding languages, and databases. The role entails a high degree of independence, and the successful candidate will take on a leadership position, performing their duties under the general guidance of the leadership team.
Please note that some out-of-hours work may be necessary to complete scheduled tasks or assist with complex incidents. These hours can be compensated with time off in lieu (TOIL).
Primary Technologies: SQL, z/OS, Db2, SAP HANA, ObjectStar, IMS.
The Expert Mainframe Database Technical Lead is responsible for overseeing a variety of RDBMS managed by the Database Operations team. The key responsibilities include:
-Providing expert advice and guidance to the Database Operations team and Service Operations -Branch management on a wide range of database-related topics.
-Supporting the migration of SAP workloads from Oracle to Db2 on Z/OS.
-Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of the IBM Mainframe toolset for -monitoring and managing the Db2 Z/OS environment.
-Planning and preparing for software updates and maintaining currency on the Db2 Z/OS platform.
-Advising and supporting the implementation of SAP recommendations for Db2 Z/OS.
-Delivering production support, including in-depth analysis and resolution of Db2 Z/OS performance issues.
-Consulting with SAP Operations, application teams, and other technical departments.
-Consulting with vendor representatives, such as IBM and SAP, to ensure best practices for system interoperability.
-Providing advice and implementing system parameter changes to support both legacy and SAP database systems.
-Utilizing a deep understanding of MCA, OVA, CSP, and Centrelink applications to assist teams in identifying and resolving issues.
-Managing change processes through Service Manager and ensuring cost recovery for project deliverables.
-Developing team capabilities through documentation, training, and knowledge sharing.
-Guiding, coaching, and mentoring team members, particularly in technical specialties.
-Developing and implementing deliverables as outlined in team work plans.
-Assisting with resource planning and identifying staff training needs.
-Conducting research and analysis to identify inefficiencies and providing recommendations for optimal practices to colleagues and management.
-Communicating impact assessments or other relevant information to stakeholders or management as needed.
Mandatory Criteria
- 5+ years of Mainframe Database Administration experience.
Weighted Criteria
- 5+ years of experience with IBM Db2 tools.
- 5+ years of experience with monitoring and diagnostics using Omegamon and query monitor.
- Experience with rolling out maintenance for Db2 across mainframe systems.
- Experience with z/OS interfaces (ISPF, REXX, JCL etc.).
- Understanding of z/OS software installation methodologies (SMP/E etc.)
