Scope 1 & 2 GHG Emissions Calculator for Australia

Job ID: 39956722

Budget: $250 – $750 AUD

We’re seeking an experienced Excel developer to build a Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions calculator compliant with the GHG Protocol. All IP will be owned by us under a “work-for-hire” arrangement. Work is to be completed by 14/11/2025.

Project Overview
Build a modular, plug-and-play emissions calculator and dashboard that uses freely available Australian GHG emission factors
1. Capture Scope 1 (fuel combustion, refrigerants) and Scope 2 (electricity) data, perform automated calculations, and visualise results.
2. Ensure data entry is intuitive, calculations are robust, and the dashboard is professional and easy to maintain.

Key Features & Page Breakdown
1. Front-End Dashboard & Summary
– High-level KPIs: annual/quarterly Scope 1, Scope 2, and total emissions
– Trend charts, breakdown by category, targets vs. actuals
– Quick filters (time period, facility, country/state)
2. Scope 1 Fuel Page
– Data entry form: fuel types (diesel, petrol, LPG, natural gas), quantities (L, m³, kg) by period
– Automated CO₂-e calculations using 2025 Australian National Greenhouse Accounts Factors (Dept. of Industry, Science, Energy & Resources) available at national-greenhouse-account-factors-2025.pdf
– Validation & drop-downs for units, fuel types
3. Scope 1 Refrigerants Page
– Data entry form: refrigerant types (R-series gases), purchase vs. leakage volumes
– Emission factors (GWP) lookups
– Automated CO₂-e outputs
4. Scope 2 Electricity Page
– Data entry form: electricity consumption by meter/location/time period
– State-specific grid emission factors
5. Back-End Lookup & Calculation Engine
– All emission factors, conversion tables stored here
– Centralised formulas for ease of update when factors change
– Data validation lists, error checks, unit conversions

Data Requirements
1. Use only publicly available Australian data sources:
– National Greenhouse Accounts Factors (DISER)
– AEMO/NGER electricity grid factors
– Australian refrigerant GWP tables
2. Cite sources in the workbook and include links in documentation

Deliverables
• Fully functional spreadsheet (or web-app prototype) with the 5 pages above
• Automated Scope 1 & 2 calculations, quarterly/annual roll-ups
• Interactive dashboard with charts and tables
• Clear documentation: user guide, data source list, instructions for updating emission factors
• Handover meeting & Q&A session

Intellectual Property & Confidentiality
• This is a work-for-hire engagement and all code, formulas, designs, and data belong to us
• You must sign an IP assignment agreement and NDA before work begins

Ideal Freelancer
• Advanced Excel: complex formulas, pivot tables, data validation, dashboards
• Experience building emissions or sustainability calculators (Scope 1/2)
• Strong attention to detail, clean spreadsheet design, scalable architecture
• Familiarity with Australian GHG data sources

To Apply
Please provide:
• A brief proposal outlining your approach to each page above
• Examples of similar calculators or dashboards you’ve built (links or screenshots)

We look forward to partnering with you on the creation of a GHG Protocol-compliant tool.
