Build Detailed Australian Rail Infrastructure Map
Budget: $750 – $1,500 AUD
QGIS specialist needed — Australian rail infrastructure map
I'm looking for an experienced QGIS contractor to build a structured, handover-ready QGIS project focused on Australian rail infrastructure and commercial overlays.
About the project
This is an internal business intelligence tool, not a public-facing application. I work in business development in the Australian rail sector and want a well-built QGIS project I can maintain and extend myself after handover. The data is all public or supplied by me.
Scope
- Build a QGIS project with a GeoPackage backend
- Ingest and clean public rail network data (OpenStreetMap / OpenRailwayMap, state spatial portals)
- Set up a clear layer structure for: rail network, gauge type, network owner/operator, intermodal terminals, ports, major mines, state and LGA boundaries
- Build a template structure for me to load commercial overlays from Excel (customers, projects, opportunities)
- Apply consistent, professional symbology and a reusable style library
- Configure a QGIS print layout template suitable for inclusion in proposals and briefings
- Light Python/PyQGIS scripting for repeatable CSV imports (nice to have, not essential for v1)
Deliverables
- QGIS project file (.qgz)
- GeoPackage (.gpkg) containing all layers
- Documented layer structure and naming conventions
- Style library (.qml or .xml)
- Print layout template
- Short written user guide for updating and adding data
- One recorded handover session (Teams or Zoom, ~1–2 hours)
Constraints
- Must be QGIS-native — no ArcGIS dependencies, no proprietary platforms, no cloud hosting
- All files must remain fully editable and owned by me after handover
- Open-source stack only
About you
- Strong QGIS experience (please share examples)
- Comfortable with messy CSV/Excel inputs
- Independent contractor preferred over agencies
To respond
Please include:
1. A short note on your relevant QGIS experience
2. 1–2 examples of similar work (screenshots or links)
3. A rough estimate of hours and fixed-price quote for the scope above
4. Your timezone and availability over the next 4–6 weeks
I'll shortlist 2–3 contractors for a short paid scoping conversation before awarding the main job.
Thanks.
