Assessment - Research Poster: Data Visualisation Using Tableau
For this module, you will research a topic, develop a series of relevant data visualisations and submit an A1 poster to showcase your findings.
You are provided with a list of topics and associated datasets, from which you may choose one: Datasets and Diverse Topics for Visualisation Download Datasets and Diverse Topics for Visualisation
The poster must contain the following sections:
Title Section: A concise and descriptive title.
Introduction: Briefly introduce the topic and its significance. Explain the objective or focus of your desktop research.
Data Source and Methodology: Describe the source of your data (e.g., open-source datasets, websites like Kaggle, World Bank, etc.). Please explain why you selected this dataset and how it relates to the topic. Mention Tableau as the tool for data visualisation.
Key Visualisations and Results: Create and display at least FIVE Tableau visualisations (charts, graphs, or dashboards). Ensure the visualisations are clear, well-labelled, and provide meaningful insights. Add brief captions or text next to each visualisation to explain what it shows.
Discussion and Interpretation: Discuss the trends, patterns, or insights observed in your Tableau visualisations. Relate these findings to the research topic.
Conclusion: Summarise the key findings of your research. Highlight any recommendations, observations, or future implications.
References: Provide citations for all data sources, images, and research using a consistent format (e.g., Harvard).
Guidelines
Poster Size: A1 (594 mm × 841 mm).
Text Word Count: 1000+/-10% (excluding the list of references)
Tools: PowerPoint or Canva (for poster designing).
Tableau (for charts/graphs generation)
Files to be submitted:
The research poster in PDF format.
Research poster in original file e.g. pptx, jpg
A Tableau workbook (.twb or .twbx) file containing the visualisations created for the poster.
Tips: Ensure your visualisations tell a compelling story and are not just decorative. Use white space effectively and ensure all sections are separated. Keep the text concise and focus on visual storytelling. Proofread your work to ensure clarity, grammar, and consistency.
You will need to submit your poster in Week 8 - this assessment is 100% of the module mark.
In Week 4, you have the opportunity to submit a poster plan for formative feedback from your Associate Lecturer.
