Sports Data Analysis

I am looking to analyze and extract different statistical measures from in game sports data that I currently have. I'm looking for someone comfortable working with dataframes in either python or R that will be able to extract general statistics such as the frequency with which a certain action occurs in a given dataframe column as well as score specific information such as how often an action occurs at a given score (also included in the dataframe information). If this process goes well I'm interested in potentially applying more in depth machine learning analysis to the data.
