Cybersecurity Research and Improvement Proposal

Cybersecurity, read multiple articles, such as research papers, regular articles, white papers and/or books on that topic and by their own choice, find a problem that can be addressed or something can be improved in the topic they select, conduct a research project to addressing that problem or improving the solution, and then write a project report. The format of the report is not restricted but must be meaningful and easy to follow and read. It suggests following a regular paper writing structure if you can. The reference books of this course and the course slides cannot be used as the sole and major references/resources for your project. For the project report, the first part is the introduction, background, related work & research, significance, and details. The weight of the first part is 60%. It expects students to explain the topic and problem, the background, related works, details, and the reasons why they chose this project on this specific topic/problem (significance and benefits). It also introduces the research papers, articles, white papers, and books they selected and what they learned from them related to your project by using their own words. That is the first part of the report. The second part of the report expected students to explain what they can do to solve the problem and/or to improve the solution. For example, they could present their own thoughts, new ideas, findings, proposals, or alternative solutions to address the problem they selected. It also expects students to explain and demonstrate that what they introduced, especially in Part 2, is meaningful, useful, an improvement, and a contribution. The weight of the second part is 40%. Please highlight part 2 if that is not easily distinguished from part 1 in your project report. The review report is acceptable, but it still needs to include its own findings, ideas, thoughts, proposals, and/or some new contributions, along with the demonstrations and confirmation. At the end of the report or on the cover page, it is also expected that students include a note to list all group members (the names, student IDs, their email addresses, and a brief introduction). If contribution efforts are very different among group members, please also describe the role and effort of each member so that the marks given to different team members may be different. We will briefly learn and discuss how to conduct research/project and how to write an academic research article in general in the class. Due to time limitations, if needed, it expects student to find more information on how to do research and write a research article on their own. Please note that a project for another course, study program, or employment assignments cannot be reused as a submission for this course. It expects students to do a project specifically for this course. The use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) and writing assistance tools, including Grammarly, is not permitted. For further details, please refer to the course syllabus. Any work suspected of violating this requirement will be reported for investigation as potential academic misconduct. The project report must also include proper references and citations. Direct copying from others’ work and the Internet is not acceptable; you must write in your own words and provide appropriate citations. Be sure to include a complete list of all references and citations. Submission: October 3, by 11:59 pm: Each group will be required to submit one project proposal (one page is recommended) through UR Courses, explaining the topic/problem they chose for the project to do the research and write the project report. The proposal also needs to include a short introduction and a plan. After submission, the instructor will review, and if there is an issue, the instructor will provide feedback. Students may also want to list the reference sources they select within the proposal. Students can add more references or update the references later. The project proposal also needs to introduce the group/team. Only one submission is required for each group (please choose only one representative to submit it) and for other members please do not submit duplicates. Feedback, if there is any, will be provided to the representative. Students may change their topic and the problem they are addressing after their initial proposal submission. They need to discuss the change with the instructor (an email to the instructor is required, but they also need to resubmit the proposal through UR Courses once the change is approved by the instructor). If a change is necessary, please do that as early as possible. It is generally not encouraged to change the topic after October. December 5, by 11:59 pm: Each group will be required to submit one final project report before due. Zero mark for the project will be given for late submission without sufficient reason and/or without proper evidence to support the situation. For each group, please only submit one final report by one of the group members. For other members, please do not submit duplicates. Please make sure to submit the project report on time. It is the submitter’s responsibility to confirm that the submission is successful, and the right file was submitted and can be read. Grading:
