Research Manager - Freelancer
Main Purpose of Job
To design, lead and manage quantitative and qualitative research projects on independent professionals and the self-employed that guide and shape IPSE’s core policy areas, communication campaigns, products and commercial objectives.
To work with external research agencies and other stakeholders where applicable to deliver research projects.
To work with internal teams to understand current members, potential members and to explore new industries and potential markets.
To provide the teams across IPSE with policy research, product research and user experience research.
To draw meaningful insights from data and feedback.
The Research Manager works closely with the research, policy, product, marketing, commercial, membership and press teams to apply strategic and analytical thinking, project management and a commercial awareness to projects from initial design through to reporting and dissemination of findings.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic research design and project management:
- Lead and project manage large scale projects from start to finish and maintain strong stakeholder relations.
- Design, lead and manage the implementation of mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) research projects to support IPSE’s policy work and commercial objectives.
- Conduct analysis, deduce key findings, create data visualisation and prepare reports to publication standard.
- Oversee projects managed by the Research and Policy Executive.
- Work proactively within and beyond the organisation to enhance strategic dissemination and impact of research to maximise impact and influence stakeholders.
Customer journey and engagement:
- Work with Marketing and Membership to monitor customer engagement, customer satisfaction and trends in behaviour.
- Analyse available research and data to report on key KPIs and provide recommendations for improvement.
Subject matter expert:
- Develop a strong understanding of the self-employment sector and be the point of contact for any internal or external research enquiries.
- Build and manage alliances with other external research stakeholders, academics and business partners to strengthen campaign success and create a unified voice on issues central to freelancing and modern working.
Education, Qualifications and Training
- At least 5 years of applied project/research management experience.
- An honours degree in a social science that includes a substantial element of social research methods or a related discipline.
Knowledge and Experience
- Good knowledge of both qualitative and quantitative research methods and their application.
- Ability to demonstrate practical application of designing questionnaires and analysing survey data.
- Ability to demonstrate practical application of designing, conducting and analysing qualitative research.
- Experience of writing research reports or similar for a variety of audiences, including the press.
- Experience of building strong external relationships to enhance and strengthen the company’s profile and build new partnerships.
- Proficient in Excel or similar software.
- Strong commercial awareness experience of tracking market trends.
- Experience of working in a public-policy driven environment, such as a trade association, government or membership organisation.
- Experience of implementing research strategies.
- Experience of managing budgets.
