Need an excel formula

I am looking for a formula that will count numbers in columns. However when 2 numbers are in columns side by side I want the count to be 1. It's not numbers total I'm looking for but the count of instances of numbers if that makes sense. Eg row b6=3, c6=blank, d6=blank, e6=7,f6=8 the total would be 2 as it counts e6 and f6 as one instance
