Container Truck Turnaround Times Project
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
A measure of productivity within container stevedore terminals in Australia is the number of minutes taken by the container terminal to service the truck with the loading an/or unloading of shipping containers to/from the heavy vehicle combination. This is known as the "Truck Turnaround Time" (TTT).
Container Terminals measure TTT from "gate in" of the heavy vehicle to "job complete" (i.e. when the terminal handling equipment are finished with the task, but not counting the time taken by the heavy vehicle to be processed to leave the terminal). However, this does not take account of any waiting time (queuing) outside of the terminal by trucks who arrive legitimately for their allocated time-zone.
The Project would collect GPS or other data from individual container transport companies and input that data into a consolidated spreadsheet so that aggregated TTT data can be produced, analysed and published.
The spreadsheet would need to be simple to allow transport operators to upload their data on a monthly basis, and for consolidated results (average TTT per month) to be produced.
