Project: Automated Data Extraction Tool for Market Data
Hi there,
I’m looking for a freelancer to help me build an automated data extraction tool. The main goal is to automatically fetch public electricity market data (starting with Australia) and organize it into Excel files that can be easily linked to Power BI for analysis and reporting. Further work of this kind will be available if quality work is delivered.
Scope of Work:
• Build a tool (can be Python or other suitable language) that automatically downloads monthly pricing data from AEMO website

• The data of interest includes:
o Regional reference prices (RRP)
o Across all NEM regions (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS)
o All pricing data are presented as a time series covering the period from 2023 through year-to-date.
• Format the data into Excel (xlsx), in a clean, structured format (e.g., each tab per region)
• Ensure the tool automatically downloads the latest monthly data when it's published on the AEMO website (no manual input needed)
• Output files should be Power BI - ready (i.e., consistent formatting and auto-refreshable if possible)
Additional Notes:
• Prefer solutions using open-source libraries (e.g., Python + pandas + requests/Beautiful Soup, or similar)
• It should be easy to run monthly
• If the AEMO website structure changes, the tool should be easy to maintain/update
