Multimedia learning online experiment
Budget: $250 – $750 USD
Greetings!
I am looking for a university lecturer to encourage his/her students with at least B2 English proficiency level to attend an online experiment (there are 2 sessions in this experiment; each lasted for about 30-40 minutes), in which they will learn the basis of a new language.
The collected data will be used in the research on multimedia learning.
To encourage your students to participate in the experiment, you may reward them extra course credits, but their participation must be voluntary (as required by the university according to the code of conduct for the recruitment of participants).
When responding to this job proposal, please provide the following information:
1. the name of the university and its official website
2. ethnicity of the of the students*
3. mother tongue of the of the students*
4. other languages the students may know*
5. the students’ field of study
6. when you can provide us the list of students
7. when the students are ready to participate in the experiment
* If the students come from diverse backgrounds, indicate the major group/subgroup.
Note that, we will open this project on Freelancer 3 times. Therefore, even if you are not chosen in the first place, we can notify you after one week before we reopen this job proposal again.
What will the recruiter have to do?
The recruiter has to
1. provide a list of students’ names and their university emails (personal emails will not be accepted), as we will send to each student their individual log in password to take part in the experiment (Note, that the emails will be used only for the purpose of the experiment.)
2. encourage the students to participate in the experiment.
What will the participants be asked to do in the experiment?
To take part in the experiment, students must have a laptop or desktop computer equipped with a microphone. This experiment consists of 2 sessions, and each session will be opened for 3 days.
Firstly, participants will be asked to watch an educational video, which lasts 19 minutes. After watching the video, they will be tested how much they have learned. Their performance will allow us to evaluate the design of the video material.
The time required to finish the first session is approximately 30 minutes.
Then, the participants will rest for 2 days, and wait for notification to join the second session.
During the second session, they will be asked to watch another educational video, which lasts 18 mins. Then, they will fill in a short survey form concerning the learning experience. Next, the same as the previous session, they will respond to a learning test.
The time required to finish the second session is approximately 40 minutes.
Compensation (USD 270):
The recruiter will get monetary payment (fixed-price at 270 USD) if at least 80 students complete the experiment successfully (By “successfully”, it means that participants follow the instructions. Their performance in the experiment will not be judged; the most important thing is that they try to perform well and provide truthful data).
Note that from our experience, usually only half of the students invited agree to participate in the experiment. So, the recruiter has to invite a lot of students during recruitment process.
