I'm trying to create a spreadsheet to use for our fair trade jewellery company's gold plating department. We have a gold plating machine that adds a layer of gold to all of our jewellery. In order for it to work properly, we have to gold plate the jewellery in small batches. The batches need to be all of a similar total surface areas (which I have for each style of jewellery). What i'm looking to do is have the technician put into the sheet the total number and types of jewellery that needs plating, and then the sheet will compute and put out a list of batches, and what is in each batch, to be plated. Each batch should have the same or close to total surface area.
On top of that, the total time the jewellery is in the gold plating machine (immersion time), will fluctuate based on the depletion of gold from the machine. This means the total gold content will also need to be tracked from its starting point, and as it is depleted, the immersion time will increase. This means the program will need to not only batch the products into similar surface area groups, but also track gold depletion and inform the technician on the immersion time for each batch.
