# Freelance University Data Researcher — Large-Scale Database Enrichment

## About the Project

We are building and enriching a global higher-education database containing approximately **38,000 universities and educational institutions worldwide**.

We are looking for an experienced and highly detail-oriented freelance data researcher to manually review each university, research information from reliable sources, and accurately complete the required fields within our internal database.

This is not a basic copy-and-paste data-entry role. The researcher must be able to investigate information, compare multiple sources, identify outdated or conflicting details, and enter clean, structured, and verified data.

## Key Responsibilities

The selected freelancer will:

* Review universities individually within our database.
* Research each institution using official university websites and other reliable sources.
* Complete missing university information across a large number of structured fields.
* Verify existing information and correct inaccurate, outdated, duplicated, or incomplete entries.
* Follow the required database format and data-entry standards consistently.
* Clearly distinguish between confirmed information, unavailable information, and information that does not apply.
* Record source links where required so the information can be reviewed and verified.
* Identify universities that have closed, merged, changed names, or operate under another institution.
* Avoid assumptions, fabricated information, and the use of unreliable sources.
* Maintain consistent quality while working through a very large number of university profiles.
* Report unclear cases, technical issues, and recurring data problems to the project manager.

## Examples of Information to Research

The database contains approximately 200 possible fields per university. Not every field will apply to every institution, and the full list will be provided after onboarding.

Applicants are not expected to memorize these fields. Clear instructions, field definitions, and formatting requirements will be provided.

## Research Standards

Information must be collected primarily from:

1. Official university websites
2. Official admissions and program pages
3. Government education authorities
4. Recognized accreditation bodies
5. Official ranking organizations
6. Other reliable sources approved by the project manager

Third-party websites should only be used when official information is unavailable and the source can reasonably be trusted.

The freelancer must never invent information to complete a field. When reliable information cannot be found, the correct unavailable-data status must be selected according to our guidelines.

## Data Quality Requirements

All submitted work must be:

* Accurate
* Current
* Properly formatted
* Consistent across institutions
* Supported by reliable sources
* Free from unnecessary text or formatting errors
* Written in clear and professional English
* Checked before submission

The work may be reviewed through random quality-control checks. Profiles containing fabricated, carelessly copied, incorrectly categorized, or consistently outdated information may be rejected and returned for correction.

Repeated quality issues may result in termination of the contract.

## Required Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have:

* Previous experience in online research, data enrichment, database management, academic research, lead research, or a similar role
* Strong attention to detail
* Excellent internet research skills
* The ability to verify information across multiple sources
* Good written English
* Experience working with spreadsheets, content-management systems, databases, or internal dashboards
* The ability to follow detailed instructions and formatting rules
* Strong consistency when completing repetitive, high-volume work
* Good judgment when information is unclear, conflicting, or unavailable
* Reliable internet access
* The ability to work independently and meet agreed targets

Experience researching universities, admissions, scholarships, educational programs, or international higher education is strongly preferred.

## Project Scale

The complete database contains approximately **38,000 institutions**, with up to **200 possible data fields per institution**.

This is a large, long-term project. Work may be divided into batches based on country, region, institution type, or priority.

The freelancer will initially receive a smaller paid test batch. Continued work will depend on accuracy, consistency, communication, and completion speed.

Additional researchers may also be hired, so the selected freelancer must follow shared standards to ensure that all entries remain consistent.

## Workflow

The expected workflow will generally be:

1. Open the assigned university profile.
2. Review the existing information.
3. Visit the institution’s official website.
4. Research the required fields.
5. Verify important information using additional reliable sources when necessary.
6. Enter or correct the data using the required format.
7. Add supporting source links where required.
8. Review the completed profile for errors.
9. Mark the profile as complete or flag it for further review.
10. Move to the next assigned institution.

## Performance Expectations

Applicants should be prepared to:

* Meet an agreed minimum number of completed profiles per day or week
* Maintain a high accuracy rate
* Correct rejected entries when feedback is provided
* Provide regular progress updates
* Communicate early if a deadline or target cannot be met
* Follow updated research guidelines as the project develops

Performance will be evaluated based on both speed and quality. Completing many profiles with inaccurate information will not be considered acceptable.

## Paid Test Assignment
