Data Scraping: Canadian Businesses’ Contact Information (Stage #1)
Budget: ₹750 – ₹1,250 INR
I need a freelancer to gather the contact details for businesses across Canada by scraping a number of websites. This will be a multi-stage project.
You will find businesses’ contact details from five types of websites, with each type being a stage in this project:
Stage #1: Municipality websites
Stage #2: Chamber of Commerce websites
Stage #3: Business Improvement Area (BIA) websites
Stage #4: Niche business directories
Stage #5: Business associations
** NOTE: This first project only concerns the first type of website: Municipality websites. Once this stage is completed, I will move on to the second stage (Chamber of Commerce websites) **
Here is exactly what you will do in this first stage, step-by-step:
Stage #1: Municipality websites:
a) You will scrape the website for every municipality (i.e. city) in Canada. I have a sheet that contains source websites for the ten provinces and three territories in Canada. Each source website contains links to the websites of municipalities in that province/territory. You will review those source websites and scrape all municipality websites from each source website.

b) Check the municipality websites for the top 50 municipalities (by population) to see if each website has a business directory.
c) If a municipality website does have a business directory, scrape/download the business directory for businesses’ contact details.
As an example, the City of Mississauga in the province of Ontario has an online directory that lists 14,481 businesses in Mississauga, and allows users to download the list as an Excel file (I have already downloaded info for all of these businesses):

Note: some municipality websites don’t have business directories. That’s fine - I just want you to check the top 50 municipality websites and determine which ones do have business directories.
So to summarize the work to be done in this first stage (Municipality websites), you will: (a) scrape the website for every municipality (i.e. city) in Canada; (b) check the municipality websites for the top 50 municipalities (by population) to see if each has a business directory; and (c) if a municipality website does have a business directory, scrape/download the business directory for businesses’ contact details.
