NHANES Database Analysis on Osteoporosis: Diet, Inflammation, Activity, and Sleep
Project Scope:
I would like to use the NHANES database (2007–2023) to explore the association between:
Dietary pattern/quality/nutritional components...
Inflammatory markers (systemic immune-inflammation index, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio [PLR], neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio [NLR], product of platelet count and neutrophil count [PPN])...
Physical activity levels (recreational and work-related...)
Sleep pattern and quality...
in patients with osteoporosis (and possibly osteopenia).
Potential Directions:
We aim to select a novel and high-impact research topic that can be published in a journal with impact factor >5. After reviewing the literature, we hope to finalize the study topic from one of the following promising directions:
“Dietary-Inflammatory-Lifestyle Index and Its Association with Osteoporosis and Mortality: A NHANES-Based Analysis”
– Developing a novel composite index combining diet, inflammation, and lifestyle to predict osteoporosis outcomes.
“Deep Learning–Based Prediction of Osteoporosis/osteopenia/or BMD Using Dietary, Inflammatory, and Lifestyle Features: A NHANES Analysis”
– Applying machine learning or deep learning to build a predictive model for osteoporosis risk stratification.
“Sleep-Inflammation-Osteoporosis Axis: A Nationwide Analysis from NHANES”
– Investigating the interplay between sleep quality, systemic inflammation, and bone health, which is an underexplored but clinically relevant research area.
What We Need:
Literature review to identify a novel, high-impact topic that fills current research gaps.
Expert guidance to finalize a publishable research question.
Data extraction and cleaning from NHANES (2007–2023).
Statistical analysis and/or machine learning modeling as appropriate.
Drafting of the Methods and Results sections for the manuscript (we will handle Introduction/Discussion).
Deliverables:
Finalized study topic with rationale.
Data analysis scripts (preferably in R or Python).
Statistical tables and figures suitable for publication.
Draft of Methods and Results sections.
