Global Language-Identity Mapping

Job ID: 39810631

Budget: $15 – $25 USD

I am launching an ambitious, research-driven effort to chart how language, culture, and personal or collective identity intersect across the globe. The project will pull together linguistic census data, ethnographic studies, migration statistics, audio samples, and cultural narratives, then weave them into a unified, geospatially accurate picture that captures both dominant tongues and the voices that risk being lost.

Your brief revolves around three pillars:

• Data synthesis – gather, clean, and normalize multilingual data sets (ISO 639 codes, census counts, sociolinguistic surveys, oral-history transcripts) so they can be layered on a single coordinate grid.

• Analysis – uncover patterns that show how language choice shapes affiliation, belonging, and policy outcomes in a rapidly globalizing environment; statistical modelling or qualitative coding may be relevant depending on regional source material.

• Story-first visualization – translate the findings into an online, zoomable map and companion report that invite exploration by scholars, policy advisors, educators, and an engaged public. I am open to the technical stack you find most powerful—ArcGIS, Mapbox, Leaflet, D3.js, Tableau, or a custom Python/JavaScript hybrid—as long as the end product is fast, intuitive, and device-agnostic.

Deliverables will include:
1. A cleaned, well-documented master data set (CSV/GeoJSON plus a short README).
2. An interactive web map hosted on a cloud platform I can maintain after hand-off.
3. A narrative report (≈50 pages) summarizing methods, key insights, and recommended next steps.
4. Optional teaching assets—slide deck, infographics, or short explainer videos—if time and budget allow.

Success criteria are straightforward: no critical data gaps in regions covered, map loads under three seconds on a 4G connection, and all conclusions are transparently traceable to cited sources.

If multilingual sourcing, geospatial design, and cultural research excite you, let’s set up a quick call to refine the scope and timeline.
