I’m building a personal finance system in Excel and need a streamlined workbook that automatically tracks income and expenses. The sheet should handle every step—from easy data entry to clear, visual insights—without my having to tinker with formulas each month.
Core requirements
• Automatic calculations: as soon as I enter a transaction, totals, monthly subtotals, and running balances should refresh.
• Categorisation: I want drop-down menus for expense and income categories that feed into a summary table, so I can quickly spot where my money goes.
• Charts & graphs: dynamic bar or pie charts that update in real time, giving me a dashboard-style view of spending vs. income for any chosen period.
You’re free to use pivot tables, named ranges, tables, conditional formatting, or even simple VBA if that keeps the user experience smooth—but the end result must stay fully editable in standard Excel (no external add-ins).
I’ll supply a list of categories and sample data once we start. Final delivery is the unlocked .xlsx file with clear instructions on adding new months and categories.
