Python Carbon Footprint Calculator for Indian College Hostel Students
Project Description:
I need a Python tool to calculate Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions for hostel students based on the GHG Protocol.
What the calculator must do:
1)Take 3 inputs from user:
Monthly electricity units used
Monthly petrol liters for 2-wheeler transport
Daily laptop + mobile charging hours
2)Apply India-specific emission factors:
Electricity: 0.71 kg CO₂e/kWh for Tamil Nadu grid – CEA 2024
Petrol: 2.31 kg CO₂e/liter – IPCC 2006 Tier 1
3)Formula: Emissions = Activity Data × Emission Factor
4)Output:
Total monthly CO₂e in kg
% breakdown by Electricity, Transport, Digital usage
Simple bar chart of the 3 categories
5)Interface:
Can be CLI or basic Tkinter GUI. Clean, commented code.
