Global Warming: An Urgent Crisis

Job ID: 38432221

Budget: €250 – €750 EUR

The term of global warming which is usually used interchangeably with previous definition such as climate change, refers to the long-term rise in Earth 's surface temperatures due to human activity, primarily through burning fossil fuels. This process is one of the most pressing environmental problems on earth, affecting eco-systems,weather systems and sea levels as well human health. It is important to know what causes global warming, its effects and how both can be solved in order to reduce the impacts of this phenomenon on our planet for future generations.
#### Causes of Global Warming

The greenhouse effect is the big driver of global warming: carbon dioxide and other **greenhouse** gases are mostly transparent to short-wave light, but absorb long-wave radiation. It has been further intensified by the actions of humans, especially with their industrial activities post-Industrial Revolution and thus causing an enhanced greenhouse effect due to high concentrations of Greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), nitrous oxide(N2O) etc.
**1. Fossil Fuels:**
The largest source of CO2 emissions is from the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil, and natural gas) for electricity production and transportation. With emissions of carbon dioxide in volumes never seen previously by ancient and now primitive Earth, power plants, automobiles airplanes and factories contribute to the enhanced greenhouse effect warming our planet.
**2. Deforestation:**
Forests, of course are natural carbon sinks and help reduce CO2 from the atmosphere. But large-scale deforestation of the rainforest—primarily for agriculture, logging and urban development—means there are fewer trees left to soak up CO2 which results in more of this climate-damaging greenhouse gas entering the atmosphere.
**3. Agriculture:**
For example, agricultural activity is responsible for 15% to 30 % of global warming due controbution of methane release from run-off livestock digestion and rice paddies, i nd nitrous oxide released by fertilized soils. Remember, those gases are much more potent than CO2 as a global warming gas, meaning that agriculture is now one of the world's biggest contributors to global climate change.

**4. Industrial Processes:**
Some industrial processes produce greenhouse gases and others use power to release energy which generate GHGs. These processes collectively account for the increase of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.
Impacts of Global Warming

Global warming can also be summarised as showing: far-reaching, multitudinous influences on natural systems; human wellbeing and the overall economies worldwide.
**1. Rising Temperatures:**
During the last century, global average temperatures have increased by more than they should naturally. One implication of this is an increase in heatwaves, which when severe can cause the health impacts on some populations — including heart attacks and even fatalities due to extreme temperature.
**2. What Will Happen To A Melting Ice And Rising Sea Levels?
The polar ice caps and glaciers are melting at an unprecedented speed as a result of the soaring temperatures, causing sea levels to rise. And what is at stake are the lives of millions and trillions of dollars in economic damages due to increased flooding and erosion that can lead to displacement from coastal communities.
**3. Extreme Weather Events:**
Climate change is particularly associated with rising statistics of extreme weather events such as hurricanes, severe droughts and increased precipitation. It can lead to extensive breakdown of infrastructure, dislocation or unavailability of food and water flowing through lack in the lifecycle.
**4. Ecosystem Disruption:**
Variability of temperatures and precipitation; influences on ecosystems and biodiversity. Some species will have to migrate into new regions, and others could go extinct if they are not able to adapt quickly enough. This disruption can cascade through food webs and ecosystem services that are directly or indirectly important to humans.
**5. Ocean Acidification:**
More than a quarter of the CO2 released via human activity into the atmosphere is taken up by oceans, which becomes incorporated in seawater. It is known as the process of ocean acidification and it endangers marine life, especially organisms with calcareous shells or skeletons - including coral reefs, molluscs and some plankton species.

Sources – Solutions to Climate Change

Tackling global warming is something that will need to be addressed through many different means — at the international, national and local level. It advocates measures such as reducing emissions of greenhouse gases; increasing the amount of carbon stored per unit area and extending storage areas (sinks); adjusting systems to cope with whatever climate change events become inevitable.
**1. Renewable Energy:**
The movement from fossil to other more sustainable options of energy including solar, wind and hydro are vital in the reduction of CO2 emissions. Green energy and Green investment by providing cleaner infrastructures alternatives to conventional high carbon emitting sources of resources you use is beneficial in many ways.
**2. Energy Efficiency:**
Thus, energy use in buildings, transportation and industrial processes can be significantly reduced through increasing their efficiency and this would lead to substantial reduction of greenhouse gases. It could mean shifting to other appliances for energy savings, adding better insulation on buildings and encouraging the use of public transport or electric vehicles.
**3. Reforestation and Afforestation:Sanitation,[], habitable places.
To increase carbon sinks, reforesting (planting trees to replace ones that were cut down) and afforestation( planting trees where they had never been planted or desired before). Both activities absorb CO2 from the atmosphere, thereby offsetting some of our human emissions.
**4. Sustainable Agriculture:**
Sustainable agricultural practices like precision farming, agroforestry and organic farming can decrease the methane & nitrous oxide emissions. Combining stronger soil health with crop varieties more resilient to climate variability can also aid food security.
**5. Policy and Legislation:**
There is a critical role for governments addressing global warming through policy and Legislation. Such mechanisms include carbon taxes (a form of Pigouvian tax), or cap-and-trade systems and quotas. High-level commitment to manage climate change, under international agreements like the Paris Agreement.

**6. School Awareness and Education **
And raising public awareness about the causes and consequences of global warming is crucial to securing political support for climate action. By providing more educational resources, such as those already implemented in Brooklyn and Manhattan schools et al — groups can give people the necessary tools to aid them make informed choices about what changes they should be making when changing their carbon footprint on an individual or group basis.
**7. Technological Innovation:**
While research and development in new technologies are critical that innovative solutions would to implement t0 reduce global temperature rise. Progress in CCS, storage and sustainable materials can reduce emissions and strengthen climate resilience.
#### Conclusion

Global warming is a serious problem now that everyone needs to take care of the same. Although the obstacles are great, there a many variety of strategies and solutions available to reduce it burdenship without completely braking us in efforts we can still be able absorb. Through the better harnessing of renewables, improving overall energy efficiency, protecting and restoring forests to reduce net forest loss emissions and encouraging sustainable production practices we can keep GHG concentrations in the Earth system under control so warming remains below 1.5C or well below 2 degrees C as agreed by world leaders at The Paris Agreement (UnFCCC COP21). A decent planet for us all to live in safely and with resilience is built on a set of citizen, community, national and international efforts.
