LATAM WordPress/WooCommerce Developer Wanted – Immediate Hire

Job ID: 39389425

Budget: $3,000 – $5,000 USD

Project Overview
We are seeking an experienced freelance web developer based in Latin America (Mexico, Central or South America) for an immediate hire. The developer will initially help update and manage an existing WooCommerce e-commerce website (e.g., our Galaxy Groves project) and thereafter provide ongoing support for new website builds under our Smaug’s Vault projects. This is a long-term opportunity for a fast and reliable developer to collaborate with our team. We specifically prefer LATAM candidates to ensure a close time zone alignment with EST for real-time collaboration

Key Responsibilities
WooCommerce Site Management: Update and maintain a WooCommerce-powered WordPress site (e.g., adding/updating products, managing inventory, plugin updates, and ensuring overall site health).
New Website Development: Build new WordPress websites from the ground up as part of the Smaug’s Vault initiative – including WordPress installation, theme setup, and configuration of plugins (especially WooCommerce for online stores).
Customization & Coding: Customize themes and plugins as needed. This involves writing or editing code in HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript to implement design tweaks or new functionality.
Plugin Integration: Install and configure relevant WordPress plugins (for SEO, security, backups, etc.), and troubleshoot any compatibility issues. Ensure smooth integration of WooCommerce extensions for payment gateways, shipping, reviews, etc.
Collaboration & Design: Work closely with our team to implement content and design updates. If you have experience with tools like Canva or using AI (ChatGPT) for content/image generation, you’ll have the opportunity to apply those skills (for example, generating product descriptions or simple graphics in coordination with our design workflows).
Maintenance & Optimization: Monitor site performance and user experience, and proactively make improvements. This includes optimizing for speed, running updates, and quickly fixing bugs or issues that arise.
Communication: Maintain clear and prompt communication. You’ll be expected to be responsive during agreed working hours, providing regular progress updates and collaborating via chat or video calls as needed.
Requirements (Ideal Candidate)
Education: Bachelor’s degree (or final year student) in Computer Science, Web Development, or a related field. (Equivalent work experience with a strong portfolio can substitute for a degree.)
English Proficiency: Fluent in English, both written and spoken. Excellent communication skills are a must for effective collaboration and understanding project requirements

WordPress Expertise: Proven experience in building and managing WordPress websites. You should be comfortable setting up WordPress environments, selecting and customizing themes, and managing content.
WooCommerce Skills: Strong WooCommerce experience – from initial setup to ongoing management. This includes installing/configuring WooCommerce, adding products (with variations), setting up product categories, and customizing WooCommerce templates or hooks when necessary.
Front-End & Back-End Skills: Solid knowledge of front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) and basic PHP. You should be able to tweak layouts via CSS, create or modify page templates, and handle minor PHP tweaks in themes or child themes.
Plugins & Tools: Experience with popular WordPress plugins (page builders, SEO plugins like Yoast, security plugins, etc.). Ability to diagnose and fix plugin conflicts or errors. Familiarity with cPanel, MySQL, or basic server administration is a plus.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for design and functionality to ensure the websites not only work well but also look professional. Testing your work before submission is expected.
Fast & Organized: Ability to work efficiently and handle multiple tasks. We value developers who can organize their workload, meet deadlines, and adapt quickly to project needs. Being responsive to messages and reliable in delivering updates is crucial.
Location Restriction: Latin America-based only. We are only considering candidates from Mexico, Central America, or South America to maintain time zone compatibility with our US team. (Please do not apply if you are outside of these regions.) This geographic focus ensures smoother communication and collaboration during our working hours

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
Design Experience: Ability to use design tools like Figma, Adobe XD, or Canva to create or edit graphics and layouts. While not a design role, having an eye for design or the ability to make minor graphical adjustments is a plus.
AI and Content Creation: Experience using AI tools (such as ChatGPT or other prompt-based systems) to assist with content creation, brainstorming, or streamlining workflows. For example, using ChatGPT to draft product descriptions or troubleshoot code.
SEO & Marketing: Basic understanding of on-page SEO principles and digital marketing concepts. Knowing how to optimize a website for search engines (e.g., using proper headings, meta descriptions, alt tags) or integrate analytics is beneficial.
E-commerce Strategy: Any experience with e-commerce strategy (abandoned cart recovery, UX optimization for online shopping, etc.) or related plugins would be advantageous.
Graphic Editing: Familiarity with simple image editing (resizing, cropping, optimizing images for web) to ensure product images or banners are web-ready.
