My name is Brendan Cameron, but many of you know me by Ty or Tyler. I am 22 years old, and have been living on my own since I was 18. On May 6th I was a passenger in a tragic auto-accident on I-75 near Ocala, while heading to GA with my family to see one of my older brothers. I don’t remember much of what happened, other than another car running us off the road and being ejected from the backseat of our rented SUV through the front windshield. I fractured my T2-T3 vertebrae & had many cuts & abrasions. In the ER, I had to get staples put in my head & stitches on different parts of my body, then was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit for 5 days. I underwent surgery for a cervical fusion on my C6-C7 vertebrae which now requires me to wear a cervical collar for at least 3 - 5 months to heal properly. I am also dealing with nerve damage that limits my ability for self-care and full mobility. Walking, while difficult, is a saving grace. I was immobile & unable to do anything for myself for quite some time. I was promised at-home healthcare, which never happened. I had to go to the ER to get my stitches & staples removed, increasing my medical debt. Since I was not provided home health care, my girlfriend was able to take a short leave of absence from work to take care of me. During this time, we had absolutely no source of income, so bills began to pile up. Prior to the accident, I was self employed and thinking about my future needs for benefits, decided to start a new job as a HVAC Tech. Being there only weeks before this accident, I have no disability insurance and no medical benefits. The car insurance legalities are a nightmare and I am doubtful if all of my medical bills will be covered. However, being disabled (even if temporarily) I still have no source of current income. I have been denied Medicaid, Cash Assistance, Rental Assistance and other government assistance even though I am under doctor’s order not to return to work. My bills include rent, truck loan, vehicle insurance, food, and medical supplies at minimum. The lease for the house is up in September, and I am unsure when I will be allowed to go back to work or if I will be able to afford housing. While I am grateful for all of those that have helped me thus far. I have a long road ahead, and often unsure what to do and who to turn to. My mom was also in this accident and dealing with her recovery, so I try not to burden her. My dad passed away 7 years ago, and my family is doing what they can to help me. My fundraising goal takes into consideration my monthly living expenditure of $1500/mo for 6 months plus anticipated estimation of medical bills. Any assistance you can provide, be it financial or advice would be a great help to me and very much appreciated. Most of all, I ask for your prayers. I have no idea when I will be able to return to work, and what that will look like for me to return to the life of independence I once had.
