Literary Spanish Stories Translation
Budget: €2 – €6 EUR
I have a set of adult-oriented short stories in Spanish—each between roughly 1,000 and 5,000 words—that I want rendered into fluid, idiomatic English while keeping every literary nuance intact. The prose is expressive, sometimes playful, occasionally erotic, so subtle shifts in register and rhythm matter more to me than literal word-for-word equivalence.
What I will provide
– Spanish manuscripts in editable DOCX format
– Brief notes on character voice, cultural references, and any wordplay that may need special handling
What I expect back
1. A polished English version of each story in the same DOCX structure (paragraph breaks, italics, headings preserved).
2. A short translator’s comment sheet highlighting any culturally specific turns of phrase you adapted or any unavoidable compromises.
3. A final read-through for flow—no machine-translation rough edges, no missing lines.
I welcome the use of CAT tools such as Trados, MemoQ, or Wordfast if they help maintain consistency, but every sentence must read as natural English fiction. A background in literary translation or creative writing will be an advantage here.
Turnaround: Please indicate how many stories you can comfortably handle per week; I’m aiming to release them in small batches.
If you relish the challenge of capturing mood, voice, and rhythm from Spanish to English, I’d love to see a brief sample—200 words is plenty—from any literary text you’ve translated.
