Lighthearted Workplace Office Mystery
Budget: £20 – £250 GBP
I need a lighthearted and humorous mystery game written for our internal workplace messaging system as part of a charity fundraiser.
The concept is an office mystery called Project Grind. Over the course of one working week, participants will receive one clue per day and, at the end of the week, will answer three questions to solve the mystery.
The final reveal is that “Project Grind” was a secret plan to replace the office coffee machine.
The challenge for participants is to work out:
Who started Project Grind?
What Project Grind was really about
When Project Grind first appeared
Requirements:
5 daily clues (one for each working day)
3 final questions for participants to answer on Day 5
A clear solution and explanation showing how each clue leads to the answers
Lighthearted, witty and office-appropriate tone
Suitable for professionals working in a law firm
Clever and layered, with genuine red herrings and misdirection
Not too obvious, but not so complex that it feels like hard work after a long day
Wording only (no design or development required)
Key Roles to Include -
The mystery should involve the following workplace roles as suspects or supporting characters:
Head of Office
Accounts
IT
Office Assistant
Solicitor
BD / Marketing
Supporting roles that can be referenced:
Legal Assistant
Paralegal
Trainee
HR
Desired Outcome -
I want the clues to feel intelligent and satisfying to solve. The ideal format would allow:
Strong players to solve the mystery by Day 4
Most players to solve it by Day 5
Some players to still guess incorrectly
The clues should be subtle and use indirect hints, wordplay, and red herrings. The mystery should feel polished and engaging rather than simplistic.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
Creative writing
Experience writing mystery or murder mystery games
Strong understanding of clue construction and misdirection
Ability to write humour suitable for a professional workplace audience
