Friendship Picture Book for Preschoolers
Budget: £250 – £750 GBP
I want a short, engaging story that introduces preschoolers (ages 3-5) to the idea of friendship through relatable human characters. The language should be simple enough for early listeners and beginning readers, with gentle repetition and plenty of rhythm so parents and educators enjoy reading it aloud.
The plot can be everyday—two kids meeting at the playground, sharing a crayon box in class, or any other situation toddlers recognize—yet it must carry a clear emotional arc: curiosity, a small conflict, cooperation, and a satisfying resolution that shows the joy of caring for one another. Please weave in opportunities for visual storytelling so an illustrator can add expressive moments and diverse backgrounds without overcrowding each spread.
Deliverables
• Manuscript of 500-800 words, formatted in spreads (left/right pages)
• Brief illustration notes only where essential to understand action or emotion
• A two-sentence pitch and back-cover blurb that capture the heart of the story
• Unlimited revisions within reason until the voice, pacing, and message feel just right
Once approved, full rights to the text transfer to me so I can pair it with an artist and move toward publication. If you’ve written for major picture-book houses or have samples that show a warm, lyrical voice, I’d love to see them along with your proposal.
