Fiction Manuscript Developmental Edit

Job ID: 39895586

Budget: $650 – $1,000 AUD

I’m looking for a seasoned developmental editor to take a deep dive into my full-length fiction manuscript. The primary goal is to strengthen plot and structure, with an eye toward a general assessment and potential restructure wherever the story would benefit.

What I need from you
• A thorough read-through that identifies structural weaknesses, plot holes, or pacing issues.
• A clear editorial letter (2–5 pages) outlining big-picture observations, chapter-by-chapter notes, and concrete revision suggestions.
• Inline comments or tracked-changes notes inside the manuscript that call out specific moments where tension dips, stakes disappear, or character motivations feel thin.
• A high-level outline of a revised structure if major reordering or cuts will improve the narrative flow.

What will help you succeed
• Demonstrated experience editing fiction, especially story-driven work that hinges on strong plotting.
• A collaborative style—explanations that show the “why” behind each recommendation so I can apply the feedback confidently in future drafts.
• Familiarity with common story frameworks (e.g., three-act, hero’s journey, Save the Cat) to justify structural suggestions clearly.

I’m aiming for a professional yet creative partnership that results in a sharper, tighter novel ready for the next editing phase. If you have a track record of guiding authors through substantial story improvements, I’d love to see a sample of your prior developmental feedback and hear how you would approach this project.
