Audio Description Writer- Deluxe

We currently have openings for Audio Description Freelance Writers. This position is remote. Audio Description is a secondary audio track used to convey information in visual media to blind and visually impaired audiences. An audio description writer creates a typed script that includes key visual elements in a given piece of media, including characters’ appearances and facial expressions, locations, plot-relevant action and onscreen text, all timed to fit within natural gaps in the program audio so that the information can be provided in real-time without breaks or pauses. Audio Description can be toggled on and off on many streaming services, just like subtitles and captions.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Write audio description scripts for feature films / TV / Streaming Media projects.
-Follow Deluxe-specific guidelines on description creation with regard to style, formatting, and workflow.
-Elevate Audio Description writing skills in order to work on higher level projects.
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, experience, and skill-set:
- BA/BS in Literature, Creating Writing, Screenwriting, Film Studies, or applicable equivalent experience preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of Audio Description and its fundamentals is preferred but not required
- Successful applicants will be trained in the fundamentals of AD writing and Deluxe’s style
- A sharp sense of how to use words to engage the viewer’s mind and emotions.
- Clear and compelling writing skills and an understanding of how words and images work together.
- A keen eye for recognizing important details in the program that need to be conveyed to visually impaired people.
- An understanding of how to match the tone of the description to the tone of the content.
- Team player and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines as needed.
