Logo Design
Budget: $30 – $250 NZD
Project Overview
We are seeking a talented graphic designer or illustrator to create a professional, versatile logo for "Derps," an upcoming adult-oriented animated series launching on YouTube. The series features dark, quirky humor similar to shows like Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, Dungeon Soup, and MeatCanyon. Each episode follows unique characters from the planet Derpetonia, blending absurd, weird scenarios with adult themes (e.g., comedic violence, bizarre creatures, and satirical elements—see attached script excerpt for vibe). The target audience is young adults and adults (not suitable for children).
The logo will serve as the core branding element, used across multiple platforms and formats, including:
- YouTube channel icon, thumbnails, video end screens, and intros.
- Social media (X/Twitter, TikTok, etc.).
- Merchandise (t-shirts, stickers, etc.).
- General marketing materials.
It must be scalable, recognizable at small sizes (e.g., app icons), and adaptable for various backgrounds/colors.
Design Requirements
- **Style**: Cartoonish and fun, with a clean, vector-based design for easy scalability and editing. Avoid overly simplistic text-only logos (e.g., dislike the Rick and Morty style for lacking a standout visual icon). The logo should feel quirky, weird, and engaging—evoking fun absurdity without being cluttered.
- **Key Elements**:
- Must include the text "Derps" in a bold, playful font that aligns with the series' vibe.
- Incorporate a standalone icon that can be used independently (e.g., for favicons or simplified branding). Ideas to explore:
- The planet Derpetonia as a central element (inspired by the attached "Derp Birds" concept, but in a fresh, unique style—perhaps stylized with derpy features like uneven continents or quirky details).
- Optionally, subtle nods to the four primary species (Avarii, Simianth, Ornyx, and Hemogoblins) if it doesn't overcrowd the design—e.g., integrated as small icons orbiting the planet or stylized within the text.
- **Color Palette**: Flexible, but incorporate or draw inspiration from #03F5FF (a bright cyan from our existing "Derp Birds" branding) for accents. Use vibrant, eye-catching colors that convey energy and weirdness. Provide variations: full color, monochrome, and inverted for dark/light modes.
- **Inspirations and References**:
- Love the MeatCanyon logo's simplicity (e.g., their "MC" shorthand on YouTube), but "Derps" needs a more distinctive, series-specific visual hook.
- Attached "Derp Birds" concept: Use this as a starting point for the planet + text integration, but evolve it into something original and fitting for "Derps'" edgier tone.
- Overall vibe: Fun, quirky, weird—think distorted, exaggerated elements that hint at the series' chaotic world without being too literal.
- **Technical Specifications**:
- Deliver in vector formats (SVG, AI, EPS) for scalability.
- Include high-res raster versions (PNG, JPG) at various sizes (e.g., 512x512 for icons, full HD for merch).
- Ensure the design is original and free of copyright issues.
- **No-Gos**: None specified, but avoid childish or overly cute elements to match the adult humor.
Process and Deliverables
- **Concepts**: Provide at least 3-5 initial concepts/sketches within 1 week, based on this brief. We'll select one or two to refine.
- **Revisions**: Unlimited minor revisions (or at least 5-10 total rounds) to iterate until it perfectly matches the vision. We'll use a shared FigJam board for inspiration, feedback, and collaboration.
- **Timeline**: Initial concepts within 7 days; final deliverables within 2 weeks to align with our first episode launch.
- **Ownership**: You (the designer) will provide full ownership rights to the final logo and files. Include a simple contract or agreement for this.
How to Submit Your Proposal
- Share your portfolio, especially examples of cartoon logos, animated series branding, or quirky/adult humor projects.
- Provide a rough quote, estimated timeline, and any questions.
- Explain your initial ideas for "Derps" based on this brief.
We're excited to collaborate and bring the weird world of Derpetonia to life! If selected, we'll share the FigJam board for more visual refs.
