Book Scene Illustration

Job ID: 40409860

Budget: $30 – $250 USD

I'm looking for a talented illustrator to create a captivating image of a scene from a book.

Requirements:
- Illustrate a moment from the narrator's perspective
- Mood: Reflective/Thoughtful
- Genre: an overlooked scene from The Great Gatsby novel

Ideal skills and experience:
- Strong illustration skills
- Experience with romance and reflective themes
- Ability to capture emotional depth in artwork

Specific passage from the book:

“Inside, the crimson room bloomed with light. Tom and Miss Baker sat at either side of the long couch and she read aloud to him from The Saturday Evening Post - murmurous and uninflected, running together in a soothing tune. The lamp-light, bright on his boots and dull on the autumn-leaf yellow of her hair, glinted along the paper as she turned a page with a flutter of slender muscles in her arms.”

This scene has exactly two characters in it. It is early evening. I envision that Tom in his 1920’s riding clothes and Miss Baker in a 1920s white dress. Hair style and color is key. Tom’s hair is dark and fashionable for the time. Miss Baker is strawberry blond in 1920s cropped fashion. I also envision some fancy 1920s wallpaper, complete with the play of the light coming from the lamp.

Tom and Miss Baker are not in a romantic relationship, but are definitely representations of romance, influence and prestige as well as wealth, power, and ease. Tom wants the narrator as his confidante and Miss Baker may (and does) become a love interest especially introduced to the narrator, as a nice way to keep the narrator in Tom’s (and Daisy’s) social orbit.
