Implementing S-DES (Simplified DES) and evaluating its performance with DES and RSA
Budget: $10 – $30 USD
S-DES (Simplified DES) works in a very similar way as DES. But S-DES is designed with smaller number bits for the size of the block and the keys. The detail design of S-DES is mentioned in the attached
S-DES.pdf file. The implementation of DES is available in the attachment “CryptoCodes”
Requirement: modify the existing code of DES in the attachment “CryptoCodes” to fulfil the requirements of S-DES.
After implementing S-DES, you need to complete the encryption and decryption performance analysis of S-DES with the popularly used cryptographic algorithms - DES and RSA.
In encryption performance analysis, you will measure the time taken to convert plaintext to ciphertext. Encryption time depends upon plaintext block size and key size.
In decryption performance analysis you will measure the time required to recover plaintext from ciphertext.
Encryption time and decryption time can be measured in milliseconds and if the time taken for encryption or decryption is less then the system becomes faster and more responsive.
For the encryption and decryption performance comparison, you will use the same computer system so that the processor and memory condition will remain the same throughout the experiment.
You need to create 5 text files with different sizes (e.g. 25K, 50K, 1MB, 250MB, 500MB) to measure the performance of each algorithm for the contents (considered as plaintext) saved on those files. The encrypted output of each file is saved as another file which in turn will be used as the input for corresponding decryption.
The goal of the experiment is to vary the plaintext size with keeping all other parameters (e.g. key, etc.) of each algorithm consistent throughout the experiment.
Required documents to be provided result from the implementation and evaluation:
1) notebook files containing the complete implementation of each algorithm used in the experiment.
2) Explain your experiment findings using tables, graphs and pictures by comparing all tasks done in these experiments.
3) The provided information and data should be plagiarism is zero.
4) Provided list of resources used to complete this experiment.
