I’m trying to bring an existing WordPress site online on a brand-new sub-domain. The entire site is packed in a single .wpress file and I’ve been using the All-in-One WP Migration plugin. Unfortunately, the import hangs indefinitely at the “Unpacking archive” stage.
So far, All-in-One WP Migration is the only method I’ve attempted; no alternative plugins or manual restores have been tried. I do have full cPanel access for the sub-domain, and I’m free to raise PHP upload limits, execution time, or memory limits if that helps push the job through.
Here’s what I need from you:
• Diagnose why the archive stalls and complete the restore, whether that means adjusting server limits, splitting the archive, using CLI tools such as wp-cli, or switching to another plugin/method.
• Leave the site fully functional on the sub-domain—database connected, media intact, links working, and the wp-admin dashboard accessible.
• Provide a quick note of any server-side changes you make so I can keep the environment consistent in future.
Once the sub-domain loads exactly like the original site, the task is done.
