Hetzner Server Optimisation and WordPress Migration
Budget: €250 – €750 EUR
Description
We’re looking for a dependable and experienced developer to tidy up our new Hetzner server, install cPanel, verify one existing migration, and plan/execute two simple WordPress migrations with minimal downtime (especially email). Most assets already exist — we mainly need a clean review, clear explanations, and smooth moves.
Background / Current Setup
Hosting: New server on Hetzner (CloudPanel currently installed). Our monthly fee seems unusually low — we want to confirm the exact plan and fit.
Websites (WordPress):
Website 1 – already migrated to Hetzner; needs verification/cleanup.
Website 2 – currently on A2 Hosting; to migrate to Hetzner.
Website 3 – currently on A2 Hosting; to migrate to Hetzner.
Responsibilities
Hetzner Server Review & Fix
Verify the exact Hetzner package we are on (current pricing looks unusually low).
Confirm that the server configuration is correct and stable.
Provide a plain-English explanation of what is running and how it’s set up.
Install & Configure cPanel
Replace the current CloudPanel installation with cPanel.
Advise on licensing, best setup practices, and safe installation.
Prepare a simple, organized cPanel structure for hosting multiple WordPress sites.
Verify Existing Migration: Website 1
Check if all files and databases were migrated correctly.
Identify and remove unnecessary files that may have been copied over.
Ensure no critical files or data were missed.
Plan & Execute Migration of Website 2 & 3
Migration from A2 Hosting to Hetzner.
Email continuity is essential:
Lower DNS TTLs before migration to allow fast propagation.
Pre-create mailboxes on the new server (emails are hosted on the server, not Google Workspace).
Ensure no emails are lost during the switch (temporary relays or careful MX handling).
Test after cutover to confirm new emails arrive correctly.
Schedule migrations preferably on a weekend to minimize downtime.
Domain Transfer from Mijndomein
Handle domain transfers from Mijndomein (our current registrar) to Hetzner.
Ensure DNS and MX records are correctly updated during the transfer.
Plan the transfer in a way that minimizes downtime, especially for email.
Configure CDN for All Websites
Set up and configure a CDN
Ensure SSL certificates, caching rules, and performance settings are properly applied.
Confirm that the CDN is fully working after the migrations.
Security & Basic Hardening
Review the server and websites for possible vulnerabilities.
Apply essential improvements (SSL certificates, firewall, brute-force login protection, fail2ban, etc.).
Flag any larger security concerns that may require deeper work later.
Skills We Value
Hetzner server administration (Ubuntu/Debian), cPanel setup.
WordPress migrations (files, DB, search-replace, caching, cron).
DNS/MX and email continuity planning (TTL strategy, staged cutovers).
Simple server hardening (SSL, firewall, fail2ban, brute-force protection).
Plain-English communication and tidy documentation.
To Apply (please keep it brief)
A few lines on similar Hetzner + cPanel + WP migration projects you’ve done.
Your approach to preserving email during a host/domain move (bullet points).
A simple checklist you’d use to validate the Website 1 migration.
Confirm you can target a weekend cutover for.
