Who We Are:
Starts With Us (SWU) is a new movement empowering people to strengthen themselves and society by practicing curiosity, empathy, and courage as daily habits. The initiative was launched in December 2021 in response to escalating patterns of extreme thought and behavior in the United States. Through media, technology, and community activations, Starts With Us encourages citizens to shift the cultural conversation and improve how they relate across lines of difference. We are building out the founding team that will scale the Starts With Us mission and movement. Starts With Us is incubated by The Lubetzky Family Foundation (LFF). Created by KIND Snacks Founder Daniel Lubetzky, LFF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to finding solutions to society’s greatest challenges.
The Newsletter Editor will produce a regular Starts With Us email content/newsletter targeted to a consumer audience. The role will also serve as a copywriter, and ensure newsletter content adheres to our voice and tone. The editor will work with the Head of Growth to incorporate audience data and insights into editorial decisions, ultimately with the goal of driving growth and retention. Secondarily, the editor may assist the social/digital and the larger team with copywriting needs.
Job Description
Launch a weekly Starts With Us email newsletter product as a channel for awareness and engagement
Guide the overall direction of Starts With Us email newsletter content, including newsletter topics and subject lines to attract readers based on audience data and open rates
Produce regular email programming to support the movement to make curiosity, empathy, and courage as part of our daily lives
Collaborate with larger social/digital, comms, movement and partnership teams to develop email programming calendar
Copy edit email newsletter and written editorial content to adhere to Starts With Us brand voice and tone.
Manage email promotion of Starts With Us marketing and movement initiatives and projects
Regularly analyze newsletter performance and learnings with the Head of Growth, and refine strategy as needed.
You Are
Passionate about writing and the mission and goals of Starts With Us
Entrepreneurial, resourceful, and relentlessly solutions-oriented
Accountable for your results and how those are achieved
Able to manage multiple priorities and shift priorities based on needs
Comfortable in a remote work environment
Persistent in overcoming and removing obstacles that impact goal achievement
Someone who operates with kindness, transparency, integrity, and grit
You Have
2-5 Years Experience as an editor/writer/newsletter editor in publishing to a consumer audience, and managing editorial email processes.
Demonstrated ability to grow audience for email newsletters
Experience working in an integrated marketing team
Interest in writing about and promoting civil discourse/non-bias content, and promoting daily habits of curiosity, empathy, and courage.
A Bachelor’s Degree and writing portfolio of published articles/newsletters
Email/CRM platform knowledge and experience
Basic SEO understanding for optimizing headlines/keywords.
