Case Study
You are nominated as the lead auditor to plan and conduct a full WSH management system internal audit for your company, Gigant Engineering Pte Ltd (GE).
GE is a construction firm specialising in excavation, earthworks and foundation processes. The scope of your audit will be one of the ongoing mega projects located in the north. It has a total headcount of 200 workers, with the following operational units:
• Project management
• Quality check (QC)
• Logistics
• Purchasing
• Safety and security
Work processes include operating excavation machines for excavation work, crushing of rocks, levelling the surface, etc. At the makeshift workshops, workers construct formworks and prepare concrete for cementing. Operators use grinder, driller and other power tools to fabricate and mould steel rods and steel plates. Other facilities on the site include a resting corner/ canteen, makeshift office, tools, personal protective equipment and material stores and a waste/ rubble disposal point.
Question 1
Prepare an audit plan for submission to the management. The plan must illustrate all the essential and important components to be addressed in the internal audit.

Develop an audit schedule for the management. Discuss the key audit activities you plan to conduct during the internal audit and the duration of each activity.

Name a Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) regulation and justify why it is relevant to the site. Examine the requirements of the regulation and develop an evidence checklist for the internal audit. For each question, discuss the types of evidences you will look for to determine if the site is compliant or not.

At the end of the audit, the audit team is required to submit an internal audit report to the management. Illustrate all the sections in the report and describe the contents covered under each section.
