U.S. Copyright and Trademark Attorney Needed to Review My Book Before Publication
Budget: $250 – $500 USD
I am looking to hire an experienced United States copyright and trademark attorney to review my book before I publish and sell it.
My book has approximately 65 pages in a word document.
My goal is to reduce legal risk as much as possible before publication and make sure my book does not have avoidable copyright, trademark, permissions, title, branding, or other intellectual property issues in the United States.
I need a real attorney with experience in U.S. copyright law, U.S. trademark law, and book or publishing review.
What I Need the Attorney to Do
I need the attorney to review my manuscript and custom made stick figure graphics related book materials and help with the following:
1. Copyright Review
• Review my manuscript for possible copyright infringement risks
• Identify language, content, examples, frameworks, summaries, adapted material, or other content that may be too close to protected material
• Review whether any quoted material, paraphrased material, or outside source material may require permission, rewrite, or removal
• Review images, illustrations, screenshots, charts, tables, and visual materials for copyright risk
• Review any AI-generated content, freelancer-created content, or outside-created content for ownership or infringement concerns
• Recommend changes to reduce or eliminate copyright risk
2. Trademark Review
• Review the book title, subtitle, branding terms, series name if any, and other major names used in the book
• Identify possible U.S. trademark conflicts
• Flag brand names, slogans, product names, company names, or phrases that may create trademark risk
• Advise whether any title or branding changes should be made
• Recommend disclaimer language if needed
3. Permissions / Fair Use Review
• Review third-party references, quotes, screenshots, examples, brand mentions, or other outside content
• Identify what may require permission
• Identify what may be risky to rely on as fair use
• Recommend what should be rewritten, removed, licensed, or replaced
4. Ownership / Rights Review
• Advise whether I have proper ownership rights for material created by freelancers, contractors, editors, illustrators, or AI-assisted workflows
• Tell me what contracts, assignments, or legal protections I should have in place before publication
• Identify any weak points in ownership documentation
5. General Publishing Risk Review
• Flag legal risk areas before publication
• Advise on disclaimers, copyright page wording, permissions language, trademark notices, and other legal notices
• Help reduce risk of future legal disputes, complaints, or takedown issues
6. Final Written Review
I want a written review that clearly explains:
• what is legally risky
• what should be changed
• what may need permission
• what should be rewritten or removed
• what title or trademark issues may exist
• what disclaimers or notices should be added
• an overall legal risk summary before publication
Deliverables
Please provide:
• Written legal review of the manuscript
• Organized issue list by priority
• Recommended changes and fixes
• Copyright comments
• Trademark/title comments
• Permissions/fair use comments
• Recommended disclaimer language if needed
• Final summary of legal concerns before publication in the United States
Attorney Requirements
• Must be a licensed attorney in the United States
• Must have experience with copyright and trademark law
• Must have experience reviewing books, manuscripts, or publishing materials
• Must be able to review work intended for commercial publication
