Humanize 48K-Word book on the psychology of live music

Job ID: 39821731

Budget: $750 – $1,500 AUD

I’ve spent years teaching performers how to build perfect setlists, and I finally distilled that workshop into a 48,000-word manuscript. Unfortunately, while polishing the text I relied on ChatGPT for spot edits and the result is a patchwork of “GPT-isms”—generic phrasing, em dashes, hollow enthusiasm, "not x, but y", "when a x happens .. ", and the occasional cringe-worthy cliché.

What I need now is a skilled editor who can restore a professional, authoritative voice across the manuscript, with special focus on the main chapters where most of the teaching happens. Voice consistency and authentic language are my two biggest pain points. My voice is kind of a mix between Stephen J. Dubner and Steven Levitt from Freakonomics (im a huge fan) with the whimsy of Rick Rubin. (well.. it was, until AI kind of ruined it).

The research is solid; the delivery just has to feel like me talking to a room full of musicians, not a bot filling space.

You’ll receive the full draft in Microsoft Word (or Google Docs if you prefer). Your job is to:

• Strip away AI-style filler, buzzwords, and repetitive sentence structures.
• Re-establish a confident, expert tone that matches my in-person workshops.
• Smooth transitions so each chapter flows naturally into the next.
• Preserve data, citations, song examples, and any humor that still works.

I’m open to a brief sample edit on one chapter so we can align on voice before you tackle the rest. Once complete, I’d like the revised document returned with plus a clean, ready-to-layout version, formatted for kindle and print.

If you love music, understand audience psychology, and have a sharp editorial ear, let’s talk.
