Aa a creditor I would like to wind up a company

I have paid over £40,000 for works that have not been fully completed by a company with a contract. Halfway through the contract, the company asked me to make all new payments to their new company and carried out some works. They then terminated the contract advising there old company is going into liquidation and i can take them to court if i like but there is no funds or shares to pay me. I would like to send to their new company a statuary demand if this fails to wind up their new company. I need advice to see if this is legal and someone to help through the outstanding debt is £20,000
