Project Title
Children's Picture Book Copywriter — Word Reduction & Story Polish (NDA Required)
About the Project
Pocket Money Adventures (PMA) is a UK-based children's financial education programme
targeting the September 2028 statutory financial education requirement for UK primary schools.
Our first picture book, Ava Saves Up, tells the story of Ava the Elephant, a seven-year-old in a
futuristic city called Silverton, who learns to manage her money and control impulses using a
somatic habit called the Money Tap (TAP TAP PAUSE). The book has been written, fully
illustrated, and designed. We need an experienced children's book copywriter to reduce the story
word count and polish the language to match the rhythm and vocabulary of published picture
books for ages 4–7.
What We Need
You will receive the full manuscript (PDF). Your job:
1. Reduce the story text to 500–750 words total (current: approximately 1,800 words).
2. Retain every story beat, every character, and every financial education concept.
3. Match the tone and rhythm of picture books aged 4–7 (comparable titles: The Smartest
Giant in Town, Elmer, The Tiger Who Came to Tea, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus).
4. Preserve financial education vocabulary throughout: Save, Spend, Share, coins, budget,
transfer — in child-accessible language.
5. Ensure I-WANT-IT-AVA appears every single time the impulse fires — this is a
psychological anchor and must be consistent.
6. Deliver a clean Word (.docx) copy of the revised text, page by page, matching the existing
page sequence.
What We Do NOT Want
Do not remove or reorder story beats without flagging for approval first.
Do not change character names, species, or relationships.
Do not remove Walbot's speech bubbles — these are a deliberate parent-guidance tool.
Do not change or dilute the financial education message.
Do not reproduce or distribute any part of the manuscript outside this engagement.
Ideal Candidate
Published or produced children's picture books (ages 4–7). You can point to specific titles.
Experience with educational, PSHE, or habit-formation content is a bonus. UK English
throughout.
