Applications range from $5M to $100M. We are seeking a skilled freelance grant writer to assist with drafting these applications. The ideal candidate will possess qualities akin to a journalist, including attention to detail, strong research skills, and the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.

Initial assignments will be related to the EPA's Community Change Grant Program, a key initiative funded through the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), with a total allocation of $2B to fund community-driven solutions that reduce pollution and enhance climate resiliency in disadvantaged communities. It emphasizes strong cross-sectoral collaborations and aims to unlock significant resources, deliver technical assistance, and build community capacity. The grants, ranging from $10M to $20M per project, are intended to catalyze transformative changes within a three-year project period. Future assignments may include applications for the federal New Markets Tax Credit program, which helps to drive private investment to disadvantaged communities by providing flexible financing for projects that help to revitalize the communities, and other similarly targeted programs.

Responsibilities:
• Draft and edit grant applications for the EPA Community Change Grant program and others.
• Conduct thorough research to support application content.
• Collaborate with our team to ensure all application requirements are met.
• Adhere to page limits and maintain a formal, professional tone.
• Ensure all submissions are clear, concise, and compelling.

Qualifications:
• Proven experience in grant writing, preferably with federal grants.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills.
• Strong research abilities.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Familiarity with the impacts of pollution and climate change is a plus.

Community Change Grant Application Overview

The Community Change Grant application is a comprehensive document that requires detailed information about the proposed project, the community it will benefit, and the applicant's qualifications. The application is divided into several sections, each with specific content requirements and page limits.

Sections and Content Description

1. Executive Summary (2-3 pages):
• Application Title: Provide a name for the application.
• Lead Applicant: Name of the organization applying.
• Statutory Partner to the Lead Applicant: Name of the Statutory Partner.
• Contact Information: Include a name, title, email address, and phone number for key personnel for Lead Applicant and Statutory Partner.
• Eligibility: Describe how the Lead Applicant and Statutory Partner meet the eligibility requirements.
• Disadvantaged Community to Benefit: Identify and describe the disadvantaged communities intended to benefit from the projects.
• Grant Award Period and Completion: Provide estimated beginning and ending dates for the period of performance for the proposed grant.

2. Project Workplan (up to 15 pages):
• Community Vision Description: Overview of the Project Area, including its resources, assets, and characteristics. Describe the challenges faced by the community and the vision for how the grant will address these challenges.
• Community-Driven Investments for Change: Detailed description of the project activities, how they are designed to benefit the community, and the expected outputs and outcomes.
• Past Community Outreach and Engagement Conducted: Demonstrate how past engagement impacted the strategy and project selection.
• Community Engagement Plan Implementation: Specific community engagement methods and how barriers will be mitigated.
• Collaborative Governance Structure: Roles and responsibilities of the Lead Applicant, Collaborating Entities, and community residents.
• Community Strength Plan: Address elements of the Community Strength Plan as described in the application guidelines.
• Readiness Approach: Demonstrate the ability and readiness to proceed with grant performance upon receiving an award.
