Developmental Editor for Fiction Novel
Budget: $15 – $25 USD
I’m midway through drafting a fiction novel and need a seasoned developmental editor to help me sharpen what is already on the page while guiding the rest of the journey. Roughly half of the manuscript is written, so I’m looking for iterative support rather than a one-off pass.
The main priorities are:
• Plot structure and pacing—spotting slow sections, tightening suspense, and making sure each chapter earns its place.
• Character development—ensuring motivations feel authentic and arcs land with emotional payoff.
• Theme and consistency—tracking the bigger ideas and making sure tone, setting, and logic stay aligned from scene to scene.
I work in Microsoft Word with Track Changes enabled, though I’m open to Google Docs if that’s easier for you. What helps me most are clear margin notes and an overview letter that lays out strengths, red-flag issues, and practical next-step suggestions I can action in the next draft.
If you love story structure, aren’t shy about constructive critique, and can communicate edits in a way that pushes—but doesn’t overwhelm—the author, let’s talk.
