Dynamic Cooking Reels Video Editor
Budget: $10 – $30 AUD
Short-Form Food Content (Oishimate-Style)
I’m a chef and content creator producing short-form food videos for Instagram and TikTok. The content is calm, confident, and story-driven, with a strong focus on pacing, restraint, and visual clarity.
The reference style is often associated with creators such as Oishimate and Gil Treats Gil — understated, observational, and built around simple food executed with intent.
I’m looking for a freelance editor who can contribute creatively, not just technically.
Role Overview
This role goes beyond assembling clips. You will help shape each video to ensure it is engaging, well-paced, and built around a clear idea or moment. The goal is content that holds attention without over-explaining or relying on gimmicks.
Responsibilities
• Collaborate on video planning and structure
• Refining hooks and openings
• Identifying the core moment or narrative driver
• Helping surface the “clever” or unexpected element in each video
• Edit short-form videos for Instagram and TikTok
• Clean, confident cuts
• Strong pacing with room for natural moments
• Minimal, intentional use of music and text
• Support story flow and viewer retention
• Maintain momentum without rushing
• Reduce unnecessary explanation
• Ensure clarity through visuals rather than narration
Style & Creative Guidelines
• Story first, recipe second
• Understated, observational tone
• No forced humour or over-editing
• Avoid excessive text, effects, or sound design
• The edit should enhance the food, not compete with it
Content Details
• Video length: 30–90 seconds
• Format: Short-form (Instagram Reels / TikTok)
• Footage: DSLR and iPhone
• Natural kitchen audio is often a key element
Ideal Candidate
• Experience editing food or lifestyle content or a strong understanding of narrative pacing and visual storytelling
• Comfortable offering creative input and constructive feedback
• Able to identify when a sequence needs tightening, simplifying, or re-framing
• Strong editorial judgement and attention to detail
Bonus:
• Familiarity with contemporary food content trends
• Appreciation for restraint and simplicity
• Ability to recognise and avoid content that feels overly “chefy” or performative
Deliverables
• Edited short-form videos optimised for social platforms
• Occasional input during the planning stage
• Clear communication and efficient turnaround
Application
Please include:
1. 1–3 relevant work samples
2. A short explanation of why this style of food content is effective
3. Optional: a creator or video you consider a strong example of clean, well-paced storytelling
This role may begin with a paid test project and develop into an ongoing collaboration.
If you approach editing as a storytelling craft rather than a purely technical task, I’d be interested to speak further.
