Composite Deck Plan Review
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I submitted a new deck plan for review and received the permit. Now that I have pulled the siding, I find that I do not have a rim board to attach the deck to.
It is a second story deck, and the house has i-joists and an engineered rim board (about 1 inch of OSB type material). Rim board is perpendicular to the joists where the deck will be located, and the deck is roughly 45' x 15' and 10 feet out for about half of its length.
Options I see are installing blocking behind the engineered rim board as well as sistering a 2' x 12' to the exterior of the rim board and then through bolting. I also see the option to use Simpson DTT2Z brackets, but I am not sure how many would be needed and if I could install them easily. It is possible that I could cut holes in the rim board and reach inside to install these from the outside with structure screws and construction adhesive to sandwich a 2X against the I joist? But how far back would that 2X need to go?
Also, I am at 7,500' MSL, and the deck is 9 feet above ground. I can provide the plans in DXF or DWG format (will check). but looking at the least intrusive and least costly solution to install this deck.
I would want help preparing the addendum to my already submitted plan for approval.
