Wall Load Calculations & Safety Analysis
Budget: $30 – $250 USD
I need a structural engineer to verify the load-bearing capacity of two walls. The wood framed 2x4 walls carry the 2x8 roofing members and tpo sheathing, sit on 2x10 #1 southern pine joists 16"OC, which are boted to ledgers on the brick parapet walls and sit on a center brick wall as well. The two walls in question are those running vertically on either side of the two bathrooms. They sit on a 3/4" plywood subfloor. the exact placement of the joists beneath is unknown. This is strictly a safety inspection; no renovation drawings are required at this stage, just a clear answer on whether the existing construction meets current codes and how much load each wall can safely carry.
You’ll examine the information I provide—photos, measurements, and any available plans—then run the necessary calculations (hand calculations or software such as SAP2000, ETABS, or your preferred tool). If additional on-site data is required, let me know early so I can supply it.
Deliverables:
• A concise calculation package showing assumptions, load paths, factors of safety, and governing code references.
• A summary in plain language stating whether the walls are adequate as-is.
I’m ready to begin as soon as you confirm the information you need and your estimated turnaround time.
