This research aims to compare the environmental performance of sustainable wall systems in arid (Dubai) and temperate (London) climates using Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The study seeks to identify key differences in material suitability, energy efficiency, and environmental impact between the two regions, providing data-driven recommendations for sustainable construction practices in contrasting climatic conditions.
To achieve the research aim, the following specific objectives have been established:
1. To identify sustainable wall materials suitable for residential buildings in the UK (temperate) and UAE (arid), selecting options from bio-based, mineral, and composite material groups.
2. To analyse the lifecycle inventory of each wall system, examining material composition, manufacturing, transportation, in-use performance, maintenance requirements, and end-of life disposal.
3. To evaluate (using One Click LCA) the environmental impact of each wall system, focusing on Global Warming Potential (GWP), embodied energy, water consumption, and acidification potential across its lifecycle.
4. To assess the influence of climatic conditions on wall system performance by quantifying differences in environmental impact between Dubai (arid) and London (temperate).
5. To develop practical guidelines for selecting sustainable wall materials, offering architects, engineers, and builders climate-specific recommendations based on LCA findings.

This study is guided by four interrelated research questions that examine the relationship between sustainable wall systems, their lifecycle environmental impacts, and climatic contexts:
