Digital Certificates

All web browsers are using digital certificates to authenticate websites. The Certificate Authority certificates are embedded in each browser I need a way to tamper with these and demonstrate an applied attack on a browser.(not real hacking just demonstrating for educational purposes) E.g. let the browser visit a website with a fake or false digital certificate. What are the conditions needed for such an attack to be successful.
