Patent Legal Advisor

Job ID: 40471622

Budget: $25 – $50 AUD

We are an early-stage consumer product business seeking an experienced patent legal advisor, patent analyst, or IP specialist to help us understand the patent landscape before finalising product development.

We do not yet have final product specifications. Our objective is to understand what competitors have patented, what is actually protected, where there may be white space/opportunities, and what constraints we should consider as we develop our product.

We need someone who can translate complex patent language into practical commercial insights.

Scope of Work:

Research and identify relevant competitor patents in our category
Break down patents into clear, plain-English summaries
Explain what competitors are actually protecting (vs broad legal wording)
Identify key patent themes, trends, and protected features/processes
Highlight areas that may be difficult to enter or potentially crowded
Identify potential “white space” opportunities or design directions with lower IP risk
Explain jurisdictional considerations (AU, US, UK, EU where relevant)
Advise on how we should think about product development from an IP perspective

Deliverables:

A summary report of key competitor patents
Plain-English explanation of major claims and protected concepts
Risk/opportunity overview of the patent landscape
Strategic recommendations for product development considerations

Ideal Candidate:

Patent attorney, patent agent, or IP strategist
Experience in competitor patent analysis / patent landscaping
Strong ability to explain technical/legal material clearly
Experience in consumer products, beverages, packaging, FMCG, or manufacturing is a plus

To Apply, Please Include:

Examples of similar patent landscape or competitor analysis work
Relevant industry experience
Your proposed approach/process
Estimated timeline and pricing

Important:
We are seeking strategic, practical insights—not just a list of patents. We want to understand the competitive IP landscape in a way that informs future product decisions.
